Root canal. These two words strike fear in the hearts of most patients. Contrary to all the old jokes, however, the only serious pain you may experience in connection with a root canal is in putting off the procedure. Root canal therapy actually relieves the pressure and pain you may have been experiencing for weeks. The pain is in response to an infection of the nerve, or pulp of a tooth root. A root canal eliminates the infection and actually saves the tooth, and that’s really good news. So if you need a root canal, take heart!
